Chemical Destruction of Udder after Mastitis



FAQ

1. Ques: How To select a case to destroy the udder?

   Ans: Any case of mastitis which has not responded to the treatment and become fibrosis in which 
           there is presence of chronic inflammation are best suitable for destroying. 



2. Ques: After Destroying the particular quarter can i expect milk from that quarter in future or next 
          lactation  ?

    Ans: No we cannot get milk from that destroyed quarter.



3. Ques: Can I use the method of destruction of udder in acute and Per acute mastitis cases?

    Ans: No .We should not do the destruction of udder in acute and per acute mastitis .Because it will
             worsen the condition as there is toxemia with inflammation. 


4. Ques: Can we destroy the quarter in chronic cases?

   Ans:  Yes we can do in chronic mastitis cases. 


5.Ques: How to destroy the affected quarter of udder  by using chemical methods?
    
  Ans: Different procedures are there.here we will see the practically possible methods as follow 
 
       a) 100 to 150 ml of 10% Formalin in one bottle (500 ml )) of  Normal saline with 20 to 30ml 
            of lidocaine  and infuse into the quarter as much as possible .
    
       b) 100 to 150 ml of 5% Povidone Iodine solution .

       c) 5% copper sulphate solutions 30ml intramamary







6. Ques:  How can I know whether the quarter has been successfully destroyed?

    Ans:   The gland will get atrophy after the initial acute inflammatory reactions.All the injected 
               volume will penetrate the gland cistern and acute inflammatory reactions occurs and later 
               will get atrophied. The infused solutions should be left in the udder and never should be 
                milked out.

7. Ques: What should I do if there is any reactions or any illness after infusion of the above said 
               components? 

    Ans: Usually no reactions will ocur. If any signs of  illness occurs  administer Antihistamines and 
             strip out the quarter completely and flush it with Normal saline.
