RABBIT DISEASES
Rabbit Flea :
Spilopsyllus cuniculi , Ctenocephalides felis
Treatment
* Topical application of Imidacloprid 0.5ml (less than 5 kg Bwt ) once a month
*Topical application of Imidacloprid 1ml (more than 5 kg Bwt ) once a month
Selamectin can also be used
FIPRONIL IS TOXIC TO RABBITS
FUR MITE : Cheyletiella
EAR MITE : Psoroptes cuniculi
Treatment
Topical application of ivermectin or selamectin
Common Antibiotics used in Rabbits
* Penicillin G (40 mg/kg given SC every 24 hours)
* Metronidazole (20 mg/kg given orally every 12 hours )
* Enrofloxacin (10-20 mg/kg given orally or SC every 24 hours)
* Sulpha Trimethopirim can be used
NEVER USE AMOXICILLIN ORALLY IN RABBITS

VAGAL INDIGESTION -ATROPINE TEST

PROCEDURE
- INJ.Atropine Sulphate 30 mg SC or 0.06mg/kg SC route
- A rise in heart rate of more than 15 to 20 beats per minute is suggestive of VAGAL INDIGESTION
- FOR EXAMPLE:
- A cow suspected of Vagal Indigestion is having Heart rate of about 45/minute means......After administration of Atropine in SC route in ten to 15 minutes we have to auscultate again..It will be around 60 to 65 beats per minute.
NOTE: The Atropine test is not much useful in all cases of Vagal Indigestion. Because only few - FOR EXAMPLE:
- A cow suspected of Vagal Indigestion is having Heart rate of about 45/minute means......After administration of Atropine in SC route in ten to 15 minutes we have to auscultate again..It will be around 60 to 65 beats per minute.
cases will have Bradycardia.If there is complications of Peritonitis or advanced stages of
vagal indigestion or dehydration or severe distension of rumen, the animal will have
Tachycardia.
¢In normal animals without vagal indigestion means if atropine is administered there will be steep increase in hear rate. Tachycardia will be observed
